You have the reception site picked out and now you need to determine who will cater one of the most important events of your married life—you want to start it out right.  Choosing the right caterer can help to make this a positive memorable event rather than one your guests will talk about negatively in years to come.

Before starting your search for a caterer, it is highly recommended to determine what type of food you would like to serve at your reception.  The options should include vegetarian dishes as well as considering any dietary requirements you may know of from your guests.

Not only is the type of food important, but how it will be presented.  For example, if your wedding is formal, then a sit down dinner may be the best option.  A caterer will be able to help some of the finer details of the menu.

When choosing a caterer, personal recommendations from your friends or family members who have recently gotten married. Their experience will be fresh and you will have a good indication of how the catering company operates.

Additionally, it is good idea to ensure that the caterer has experience catering weddings.  This is your day and having to worry about the food is one of the last things you need to be worried about.  Moreover, ask the caterer for references—they should be very willing to boast about their services from prior clients. 

When a caterer quotes a price for services, ensure that the price includes the linens, cutlery and crockery, and if it includes set up, or if it is all an additional cost.  Another item to ask the caterer about is if the package includes the serving staff, or again, if it is an additional cost.  You do not need surprises when it is time to pay the bill.
